A State Attorney’s Office victim/witness coordinator provides valuable services to the victims and witnesses in criminal cases.
Duties
Duties offered by victim/witness coordinators include:
- Accompanying victims to court when requested or needed
- Accompanying witnesses to court as needed
- Arranging meetings between the victim and the assistant state attorney assigned to the case
- Arranging meetings between witnesses and the assistant state attorney assigned to the case
- Arranging travel and lodging for court appearances as needed.
- Arranging travel and lodging for court appearances as needed.
- Communicating to witnesses when they are needed to testify in court or to give a deposition
- Ensuring victims have a voice throughout the entire process of the case in which they are involved
- Helping victims complete Victim Impact Statements and victim compensation applications
- Making investigative requests to locate victims
- Notifying through mail or follow-up calls when victims are needed to speak to an assistant state attorney assigned to their case
- Notifying witnesses through mail or follow-up calls when they are needed to speak to an assistant state attorney regarding testimony he or she may be giving at trial
- Preparing no-contact and no-harmful-contact orders
- Preparing victims’ restitution orders
- Providing victims information about their rights in the criminal justice process
- Providing victims updates on the proceedings of the case
- Providing victims with information about referrals to available community resources or services
